2200 was created by combining three extremely rough sketches into one. The character in the black rubber costume was originally designed for Sword Hard at the same time I was working on the Hide Hard project at the end of '93. She's supposed to be an aristocratic figure from the world of demons (who fled from that world because she didn't want to marry into the royal family) and began traveling with the story's hero. During their travels, she changes her mind, weds the king of demons, and tries to entice the hero into joining the demon-world. She's assumed a human form here and looks like a female sorcerer, but her true form's utterly different. Sword Hard never got off the ground, so I still have several rough sketches and stories from it buried in my notebook. When projects don't get off the ground it's worse than if they had never happened at all. I've been involved in several that have cost me a great deal of time and amounted to nothing. As a result, I recently accept a lot more work on commission. Unfortunately, commercial work also often never sees the light of day, but at least sometimes I can later use images from such projects in collections like this one. It's hard to achieve a 100% success rate, but my goal is to show as much of my work as possible to my fans (as long as there's a demand for it and the economics work). Perhaps I'm asking too much...?
